BRACKNELL, England, Dec. 21, 2025 – Kenyon International Emergency Services (“Kenyon”), the global leader in crisis management and response since 1906, today attended a Community Celebration of Gratitude & Remembrance in Lockerbie, Scotland, to commemorate the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 on December 21st, 1988.
On the 37th anniversary of what remains the deadliest act of terrorism in the UK and Europe, as well as the deadliest terrorist attack against American civilians prior to 9/11, Kenyon reflects on the enduring legacy of Lockerbie for the families whose lives were changed forever and for the disaster management profession that continues to learn from that night. Kenyon provided Disaster Recovery, Disaster Human Services and Repatriation Services, assisting with the recovery, care and repatriation of the deceased following the incident. Lockerbie became a defining moment in Kenyon’s history, reinforcing the need for structured, repeatable mass-fatality procedures delivered with precision and humanity, principles that have guided the company’s work throughout its nearly 120 years of service.
The event, organised by the Pan Am 103 Lockerbie Legacy Foundation (PA103LL), was held at the former Dryfesdale & Trinity Church, which is currently being transformed into the Lockerbie Memorial Church Museum (LMCM). Kenyon joined relatives of the victims, local residents, and representatives of the emergency services, the UK’s armed forces, search and rescue teams and voluntary organisations to remember the 270 people who were killed and to acknowledge the role played by first responders and the people of Lockerbie in the aftermath of the bombing.
“Standing with the Lockerbie community today, we remember the 270 victims, pay tribute to those who responded, and reaffirm our responsibility to the families and communities we serve,” said Kevin Curreri, Managing Director of Kenyon International Emergency Services. “Pan Am 103 continues to shape how we prepare, how we respond and how we support those affected by crisis.”
Victoria Cummock, CEO and Founder of PA103LL and the widow of Pan Am flight 103 passenger John Cummock, spoke at the service about the remarkable compassion and care shown to victims’ relatives in Lockerbie. Her experiences inspired a lifelong commitment to advocacy, safety and commemoration.
“To this day, the people of Lockerbie and the families of Pan Am flight 103 stand together in remembrance and in a shared commitment to learn from this attack,” says Victoria. “This is why PA103LL is currently developing the LMCM. Our mission is to commemorate and educate about the bombing of Pan Am flight 103, to tell the life stories of the 270 people from 21 nations who were murdered, to honour the incredible kindness and humanity shown by the people of Lockerbie in response to the attack, and to help contemporary audiences understand the bombing’s impact and significance in a wider historical context. By bringing this building back into community use, we will provide visitors with an insight into the rich local heritage, culture and traditions of Lockerbie, while at the same time providing impactful learning experiences about Pan Am flight 103 and its associated true stories of loss, hope, sacrifice, resilience and advocacy. By preserving the stories of the 270 victims and by insisting on accountability, better safety and meaningful family support, we honour our loved ones and help protect future generations of travellers.”
Lockerbie reshaped disaster and crisis management response and continues to influence how Kenyon operates today. The response demonstrated that large-scale aviation disasters with indications of terrorism must be managed from the outset as both crime scenes and humanitarian operations, integrating search, recovery and care of the deceased with meticulous evidence preservation and close cooperation with police and forensic authorities. For organisations, this reality quietly underlines the importance of selecting partners with a proven track record in large-scale events, whose resilience and practical experience can help reduce risk for the company, its people, and the families affected.
Today, as Kenyon approaches its 120th year of service, its work for airlines, governments and corporations spans the full arc of an emergency, from managing mass-fatality incidents, leading search and recovery operations, and caring for and repatriating the deceased, to respectfully handling personal effects, supporting families and communities, coordinating communications, and underpinning it all with robust planning, training and logistics. This depth of experience is why organisations around the world rely on Kenyon as a trusted partner.
